Frequently Asked Questions

How does virtual therapy work?

Virtual therapy is the same as in-person therapy, the only difference is that we meet either over the phone or online. This often makes it easier since it cuts out a commute and you can do it from the comfort of your own home. For phone sessions, I will call you at the primary number listed in your client profile. For online sessions, you’ll be emailed a link to our video session after booking. All you need is a quiet, private space, an up-to-date browser and a good internet connection!

Are in-person sessions available?

I am currently offering virtual (phone and video) sessions only. However, this makes it possible to meet with clients anywhere in Ontario! It’s especially helpful if you’ve got a busy schedule, new baby, or are struggling with low moods or anxiety because you can still receive support even on days when it might feel like too much to get out of the home.

What happens with billing and payment?

Payment processing is done online through the Jane app. When you first book in, you’ll create a client profile and upload your credit card info there. Following each session, your card will be charged and a receipt automatically emailed to you, which you can then submit to your insurance (if applicable).

Many extended health benefit plans cover Psychotherapy. Please be sure to check with your specific provider and understand your coverage before booking!

How long do people go to therapy?

This really depends on what you’d like to work on or receive support with. Some clients will come for just a few sessions, whereas others are looking for more ongoing support. We can talk about what would be a good fit for you when we’re first getting started.

What can I expect from our first session?

Before we meet, I will send you an Intake and Consent form to complete ahead of time. At the start of our session, we’ll go over the limits of privacy and confidentiality, and I can answer any questions you might have about me, my approach or therapy in general.

Then we’ll focus in on your reasons for reaching out, and talk about relevant parts of your intake form in more depth.

Through these early conversations, I’ll be asking more about you to get a sense of who you are, your presenting symptoms and concerns, relevant history and background, as well as your current context and general lifestyle practices that we know impact everyone’s mental health — things like eating, sleeping, exercise and social supports.

We’ll also talk about what you hope to get out of this experience and make a plan for how I can best support you in reaching your therapeutic goals.
